My name is Tung Tran, but I also go by Tommy. I am a published researcher and engineer that specializes in machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) solutions. I graduated from the University of Kentucky in May 2020 with a Ph.D. in Computer Science. My advisor is Dr. Ramakanth Kavuluru. My research background is primarily in information extraction with a special focus on end-to-end relation extraction. My dissertation work led to an NLM R01 project that has been awarded over $1.3 million in total funding from 2020 to 2024.

After graduating, I joined IDS International's Cyber and Information Warfare team. As the Senior AI/NLP Engineer, I am responsible for building AI/ML solutions for our virtual training environment, SMEIR, which is currently being utilized by special operations agencies including JSOC and USASOC. My work involves creating AI systems that generate artificial social media personas and activities, closely resembling those found on real-world social media platforms. These systems are designed specifically for use in special operation training scenarios.
